Developing Coaching Cultures
A coaching culture is one where: "Coaching is the predominant style of managing and working together, and… a commitment to grow the organisation is embedded in a parallel commitment to grow the people in the organisation.” (Clutterbuck & Megginson, 2005, p. 19).
The development of a coaching culture in a school has been shown to have a number of benefits. It can, for example: promote reflection; develop teaching strategies; support cross-fertilization of effective practices; enable CPD to be tailored to individual circumstances; and support practitioners to become more reflective, critical and analytical in the way they think about their work. |
Naturally, each school's journey towards the development of a coaching culture is unique, and so APS does not offer a set package in this respect. However, if you are interested in developing a coaching culture at your school, support might include:
